10 Advanced Link Building Tips & Techniques That Truly Work

Link building is an essential part of improving your website’s SEO. Here are some of the most advanced link building tips and techniques that you can use.

To drive more traffic to your website, it’s essential for you to improve your SEO. This can help you rank higher in search results, hence driving more traffic to the website.

While improving your website’s on-page and technical SEO is great, you need to ensure that you concentrate on off-page SEO as well. You need to get other prominent websites to link back to you. These backlinks work as votes towards the trustworthiness of your website. So, you need to put effort into link building.

However, building backlinks is easier said than done.

It can be difficult to find reliable websites to get backlinks from and many of them may not even respond to your requests. So, what can you do in such a situation?

You need to look at advanced backlink building methods to get backlinks for your website. But before we get into these methods, let’s take a look at the things that you need to consider for link building.

Things You Should Consider While Building Backlinks

When you’re doing link building, you need to know that not all backlinks carry the same weight as the others. If a backlink points to your competitors’ website, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s good. You need to do a thorough analysis of the backlink and its website before deciding to go ahead with it.

It’s essential that you only look for those backlinks that are authoritative and relevant to your niche. For this, you can look at a variety of parameters. These include Domain Authority (DA), Page Authority (PA), URL Rating (UR), and Domain Rating (DR). Apart from these, you should also look at the website’s traffic, number of visitors, number of referring domains, and more.

A large portion of the backlinks that you get will be generated naturally. So, it’s needless to say that you need to create high-quality content regularly to attract these natural backlinks. However, you’ll also need to put effort into reaching out to other websites to get backlinks. You are likely already well aware of the basic link building techniques, so let’s take a look at some of the more advanced ones.

Advanced Link Building Methods

Here are some of the advanced ways through which you can build backlinks for your website.

1. Broken Link Building

One of the best ways of getting new backlinks for your website is by spotting broken backlinks on other websites.

To spot and identify broken links, you can use Google Chrome extensions such as Broken Link Checker. These extensions will help you identify broken links on a page. You can then reach out to the webmasters of these websites and approach them for backlinks.

You should provide a replacement link that the webmasters can use to replace the broken link. If you don’t already have something written on that particular topic, you can consider coming up with a new post that you can present to the webmaster. However, to chance upon such a broken backlink, you’ll need to put in a lot of effort. It can also take a long time before you can hit any success.

To speed up the process, you can use tools like Ahrefs and SEMrush. All you need to do is find blogs and websites in your niche using the tools and filter them out using 404. This will show you a list of all the links that are broken on those websites. You can then approach these websites and ask them for backlinks.

2. Resource Link Building

Resource link building is yet another advanced link building method. For this, you need to find a valuable resource that others have created in your industry or niche.

On discovering this resource, you can see if your brand, product, or service can fit into the resource. If it does, you can reach out to the webmaster and ask them to mention you and link back to your website. However, the challenge is to discover these resources. To find them, you can head to Google and use this operator string: intitle:keyword AND intitle:resources AND inurl:resources. This should bring up a list of all resources relevant to your keyword. You can then check each one of them out.

This method can become easier if someone’s already mentioned you in one of their resources but hasn’t linked back to you. In this case, all you have to do is reach out to them and ask for the backlink.

3. Backlink Reclamation

One of the easiest, but often overlooked, ways of building backlinks is through backlink reclamation. In simple words, backlink reclamation is the process of recovering those backlinks that you had in the past but don’t have anymore.

For this, you need to keep track of your backlink profile. Figure out which backlinks were lost or broken and then approach the respective website to ask them to reinstate the backlink. Apart from this, you can also monitor your brand mentions on the web. Using brand monitoring tools, you can figure out if you have any unlinked brand mentions on other websites. You can then approach those websites and ask them to link back to your website. This can help you earn backlinks too.

Alternatively, you can set up Google Alerts to get notified whenever your brand is mentioned online. These notifications can help you reach out to other websites whenever they mention you.

4. Case Study Link Building

Case studies can be great ways of getting people to trust your brand even more. You can use them to lead people through the middle of the funnel.

However, they’re great ways of building backlinks for your website too. When you create case studies about your customers, you can ask your partners or customers to publish them on their websites too. Companies tend to want to showcase the products or services that have helped them grow. So they might be open to publishing the case study on their website. When they do so, you can ask them to link back to your website.

The more case studies you publish, the more backlinks will you be able to acquire using this method.

5. Infographic Link Building

Infographics are great for conveying information to your audience with ease. They’re visual in nature and this is why they’re more engaging than long walls of text on your website.

But infographics can do a lot more than that. They’re also effective link building tools. Infographics are valuable forms of content that others would want to share on their websites. A lot of websites may share your infographic on their website without attributing it to you. You can approach these websites and ask them to link back to the original infographic. You could also make it easier for others to share your infographics on their websites by providing an embed code.

As a result, those who’re looking to publish your infographic on their website will do so as the process will be easy for them. At the same time, you’ll be able to earn backlinks from it without any effort.

6. Skyscraper Technique

Skyscraper technique may be a great way of creating high-quality content that can rank higher in searches. However, it also helps you with backlink building.

For this, you need to find content that already ranks high in the search results for a keyword that you want to rank for. Then, you need to create content that’s better than the one that already exists. This could mean that you make the content more elaborate. However, that’s not the only way. You could add videos, infographics, and more images to your post to make it appear better. This can help you rank higher in the search engine results pages (SERPs). As a result, you’ll get better traffic, which would translate into more backlinks for your website. However, do keep in mind that the skyscraper technique requires significant time investment as you’ll have to dedicate time to create the content.

Nonetheless, using this mode, you can get loads of natural backlinks without the hassle of reaching out to others to link back to your content.

7. Tools and Widgets

To get backlinks for your website, you need to create a valuable resource. While creating content is a great idea, tools and widgets can help as well.

But how can you gain backlinks using a tool or widget, you ask?

You can host the tool on your website. This would make it a valuable tool for people in your industry. Many other websites might want to link back to the tool to help their audience, hence getting you backlinks. Alternatively, you can create a tool or widget that other websites can host themselves. You can insert a link to your website in these tools or widgets to get backlinks.

Apart from backlinks, you can also make some income using them. Instead of giving them away for free, you could charge a small fee. However, this method of getting backlinks might be slightly costly as you’d need to invest significant resources into making the tool. Additionally, you’ll need to spend some time promoting it as well so that you can get other websites interested in it.

8. Original Industry Research

Yet another way of getting backlinks for your website is by conducting original research in your industry.

All you have to do is find a topic that can add value to your industry. If you get your research right, you can expect loads of backlinks to it. Industry-specific publications may want to link to it and other websites that are looking for some valuable resources for their blog posts might also link back to the study. For conducting research, you can use surveys, forms, or even emails.

The idea is to collect data relevant to the study and then analyze and publish it in the form of research. You could release a PDF of your entire research and can write an extensive blog post about it too. For this, you can look for the best writers out there.

Do make sure that you insert as many graphics and visuals as possible in the research as people may want to link to those as well. You could also write a white paper or an ebook. These make for great resources that other websites will want to link to as well. This is because they contain in-depth information and statistics.

9. Influencer Marketing

One of the best ways of getting high-quality backlinks for your website is through influencer marketing.

Influencers are powerful social media personalities or bloggers who have a dedicated fan-following. When you partner with these influencers, you can ask them to mention your brand or product in their posts. If they publish content about you on their blog, you can get a backlink from their high authority website. Alternatively, if they post about your brand or product on social media, it can drive a lot of traffic to your website. Many of these visitors may find your website or posts interesting and they may link back to them.

However, the key here is to find reliable influencers. For this, you can use influencer discovery tools where you can look for genuine influencers with ease.

10. Competitor Link Building

One of the best ways of building backlinks for your website is by looking at your competitors. By doing so, you can find out who’s linking to them.

To look at their backlink profiles, you can use tools like SEMrush and Ahrefs. The idea here is to find out not only who has linked to them but also why. Once you figure out the reason, you’ll know what it’d take to earn that backlink. You can do things better than them and approach the website that has linked to them to link to you.

Remember that this will also need you to create high-quality content so it may require a significant time investment.

Final Thoughts

Link building is an essential part of any SEO strategy. Without high-quality backlinks supporting your website, it can be challenging to showcase that your website holds any clout online.

To get more backlinks, you should create high-quality content in the form of blog posts, infographics, tools, videos, and more. Additionally, you should look for broken links, spy on your competitors, partner with influencers, and even reach out to those websites that have created resources. By leveraging these advanced link building tactics, you’ll be able to create a powerful backlink profile that can help you rank higher in search results.
