Brief Guide: Leveraging SEO to Boost Ecommerce Sales

For anyone hoping to see sensible profits from their site, it is important that they are able to stand out from the crowd and attract customers to that site. Many may opt for paid advertising, but a great way to boost your sales is to use SEO. Here are some ways you can leverage SEO services for eCommerce website to boost your sales.

The below are key SEO strategies that you can use to get more sales on your eCommerce website. This does not mean you should ignore the other SEO strategies like having meta descriptions for all your products, building links and checking for errors. These will get you more traffic and can eventually translate into sales.

Improve Loading Speed

The loading speed can be more than just a good SEO practice to improve the customer experience. If your pages load faster, it means a visitor to your site is likely to see more products that interest them. It is much easier for a visitor to put a product into the shopping cart and then move on to the next product page. In the end, you have more sales.

Research Keywords

Any SEO expert that offers SEO services for eCommerce website will advise you that no matter what site you have, keywords are important. For Ecommerce, however, you may need extensive research to find the most searched words. Why? According to research on eCommerce sales, over 80 percent of buyers will use Google search to find the products they want and as many as 75 percent of the clicks that result in sales are from the results on the first page, this means you need to fight tooth and nail to find the top-ranked Keywords and ensure you rank among the top sites for those words. Your strategy, therefore, is to appear on the first result page.

Blog

Keywords without content are useless. Blogging is one of the best ways to add high-value content to your website. You might try using the keywords on the product page and description, but that is not enough, product descriptions are not likely to be more than 500 words and yet on average, the number of words in the first page results is about 1800. How else can you hit this number of words without a blog? You will need to add a blog to your eCommerce site and begin providing quality content that is relevant to your products and keywords. The benefits of blogging include:

- More leads generated
- Your site is likely to be trusted more because of the content
- Blogging helps in branding and increases top of the mind awareness

Simplify Web Architecture

There is really no reason to have a complex site architecture, the web crawlers need to be able to crawl through your site and find the most relevant content whenever someone searches any of the keywords for which you have ranked. Ecommerce sites need to be simple especially since they usually have so many products and that translates into a number of pages to be indexed. If you use complex architecture, the crawlers will not index the site properly and that will affect your SERP ranking.

Choose Long Tail Keywords

Since you need to stand out from the rest, opt for long-tail keywords. Research shows that there is less competition for long-tail keywords yet the chances of being at the top of the search results is higher. It is also known that most search terms are four words or more long, which is a good case for long-tail keywords. It is also important to bear in mind that voice searches are becoming popular and most of them use long-tail words. For an eCommerce site, long-tail keywords make the search more specific to your products. Take for example a keyword like “smartwatch” the competition to rank for that keyword will be a lot higher than “red waterproof smartwatch.”

Have a Mobile App

Mobile is the way to go since most people today use mobile phones to access the internet. This means you stand a better chance of getting more visits to your site if it is mobile-friendly. A more decisive way to be mobile-friendly however is to have a mobile app for your website. Since this would be dedicated to your website, it will create more loyal customers since they have the app on their phone, they are more likely to visit your site when they want to shop than to go online. The more loyal customers you have, the better the sales.
