How Brands Implement IoT Enabled Digital Product Warranty

Brands are using IoT to offer digital warranty solutions to brands and end consumers. Read more to know how The Internet of Things can change the way companies invest and execute in warranty management and product activation.

Traditional warranty management techniques are progressively moving over the internet. With smart products emerging in all industry sectors, digital product warranty activation is the way to move forward for brands.

By allowing end customers to digitally activate their product warranty through web or mobile based applications, brands can enable other product-related business opportunities like ownership authentication, repairs, warranty management and offering other post-sales product services.

Proactive and pre-emptive warranty management becomes easier with an IoT based digital warranty management system.

With a digital warranty system in place, businesses can collect relevant customer and product data pertaining to warranty management in real-time. This serves as a great opportunity to further upsell product warranties and proactively promote other services. Moreover, customers can access their warranties anytime, at any place they require, over the internet without having to carry around a physical warranty card or documentation.

How Brands Can Use IoT to Offer Digital Warranty to End Consumers

Bulgari’s Digital Warranty extends product data to the internet through its digital warranty card which is scannable with the Bulgari Vault App. Bulgari’s digital warranty ensures the activation, authentication, and management of its timepieces throughout their lifecycles.

With an IoT Platform, brands can deploy a digital record on the internet for every instance of their product out in the market. In the case of digital warranty, a product data model including warranty-related attributes such as the name of the owner, address, contact details, the location of purchase, date of purchase, seller details, product details etc. can be extended to the internet. When a consumer purchases one of the products, the record related to that product’s individual warranty can be pulled up on a mobile device by scanning a QR code or URL linked to its digital warranty. This record can then be updated by the customer with their name, date of purchase and location in order to write these attributes back to the record and activate the warranty.

Since the warranty data is attached to the ‘smart-product’ or digital-instance of the physical product on the net, it can be accessed from anywhere by the product owners, dealer network and manufacturer whenever needed.

The Internet of Things can change the way companies invest and execute in warranty management and product activation.
