The battle for attention and the need to monetise views is as old as the web. We'll be looking at how to balance commercial requirements and the need to deliver great user experiences.

The presentation by Thom Milkovic, and following discussion, will touch on areas such as

  • Do online display ads interfere with the user experience?
  • Will an ad convert better if it complements or distracts from content?
  • Could the traditional brand funnel be converted to a brand pipe?
  • Can an ad add value to a site? To a brand other than to drive conversion?
  • Is it possible to build a better user experience around the complex struggle between grabbing attention and delivering value?

The speaker

For two decades, Thom has guided creative groups and development teams, as well as worked hands-on with all types of UX design and development challenges. He consistently brings one fundamental philosophical approach into all his results…every little detail communicates a critical piece of the overarching story.
