5 of the Most Effective Social Media Strategies You Need to Know

Looking for ways to improve your social media marketing results and boost your social presence? Try these five social media strategies and see the results.

Did you know that, according to a recent survey, 37% of marketers saw a decline in their social media organic reach?

As simple as social media marketing looks, it is actually very difficult to get your content noticed in the highly-competitive social media environment. It is even more difficult to profit from social media marketing.

That is why we have come up with this list of social media strategies to help you grow your social media presence.

1. Make a Plan

The first step towards social media success is to have a clear plan for what you want to achieve and how. Make a social media strategy that should include:

  • Target audience
  • Social media marketing goals
  • Choice of social media platforms
  • Type of content (specific to each platform)
  • Frequency of posting

You should also make a social media content calendar and plan it at least a week in advance. This means that you should have at least one week’s content ready to post in advance.

2. Maintain a Consistent Brand Voice and Aesthetic

Before you start posting on social media, finalize a few things like your brand voice and aesthetic. This includes your color palette, brand logo, tone, fonts, etc. You should also create and edit your video ads using the best video editing tools to enhance the customer engagement.

Maintaining consistency in brand elements enhances your brand identity. This is relevant even for influencers as they also need to have a clear and consistent personal brand.

Washing powder brand, OMO, for example, uses their logo or their parent company, Unilever’s, logo on all their Instagram posts. Another similarity between their social media posts is that most of them use the brand’s blue color and often feature the product packaging picture.

3. Partner with Influencers

Influencers can help you reach more people on social media, get you more followers, and promote your products/services. The key is to find the right influencers who are relevant to your brand and whose followers are your target audience.

You can get help from agencies to find and vet influencers and run winning social media influencer campaigns.

Once you have found the right influencer, the next step is to tell them what you want from the collaboration. You should set clear expectations, but also give enough creative freedom for them to create unique and engaging content for you.

DStv Kenya, for example, often partners with the influencer, Eric Mondi, to promote their brand. The influencer is known for his sense of humor and creates funny Instagram posts for the brand.

4. Leverage Hashtags

Hashtags are the most important social media tool that you can use to amplify the results of your social media efforts. Hashtags help you reach a larger and more relevant audience on social media platforms.

People often follow hashtags and this allows them to see posts that use the hashtags that they follow. This increases your social media posts’ reach beyond your current follower base.

Castle Lite, for example, uses hashtags for all of their social media posts and campaigns. Here is an example of their latest Tweet.

5. Use Content Curation

This is probably the most underrated of all social media strategies. As much as you want to create fresh and original social media content, it is not always feasible to do that.

To be successful on social media, you need to post frequently and consistently. This requires a lot of resources in terms of time, effort, and people.

Unless you have a whole team of content writers working for you, your best bet is content curation. This is just a filler strategy and does not replace original content. Your social media feed should be a mix of original and curated content.

That said, if you can manage to create and post original content frequently, then you should obviously do that.
