Retail Ecommerce Cart Abandonment Was 84% in the First Half of 2019

The average cart abandonment rate for retail ecommerce sites reached 84.24% in the first six months of this year, according to SaleCycle data.

Our 2019 Retail Ecommerce Remarketing Report uses data from more than 250 large retail clients, and we've split this across several different retail categories.

We can now see patterns across different website and products types. For example, we see that grocery sites enjoy the lowest abandonment rates (72%), in part because groceries are more regular than some other purchases.

The highest levels of abandonment are seen on jewelry and homewares / DIY sites, both at around 88%. In contrast to grocery, these are often more considered and also expensive purchases, and people may visit sites several times as they research and compare products and prices.
