How To Improve Your Google Rankings

You’ve built a website, and your copy is perfect. Now what do you do? You can’t simply sit and wait for others to find your site on their own. You’re going to need to market your new website so Google can find it. Yet how do you do this? Find out how you can improve your Google rankings in only a few simple steps.

Use SEO-Driven Copy

When it comes to web copy, SEO-driven copy is king. The keywords you input into your copy is how Google knows how to send viewers to your site. Google is a smart search engine, but sometimes it needs your help to understand what your website and your articles are all about.

Search for keywords related to your site that can help your users find your information.

For example, if you run a site that sells running shoes, you’ll want to find out what types of searches customers enter when they’re looking for running shoes online.

They may enter search terms such as, “running shoes,” “good running shoes,” “cheap running shoes,” “cute running shoes” or “sneakers for running.” You may or may not have incorporated these keywords into your site already, but it helps to know exactly what customers are looking for—and incorporate those keywords into your site.

Create Backlinks to Your Website

Google only wants to send visitors to the best websites on the internet. This means that you must prove that your site is better than everyone else’s. In order to do so, you’ll need to get other people to link to your site.

A link that points to your website from another website is called a backlink.

Back in the day, Google used to think that the number of backlinks pointing at your site determined how good your site actually was. Nowadays, Google prefers quality over quantity, so you’ll want to make sure you’re not asking just any Tom, Dick or Charley to link to your website.

Try to get as many .org and .edu sites to link to you. Also, sites with heavy credibility can also help your site. Try to get sites such as “CNN,” “The New York Times” or the “Wall Street Journal” to link to your website.

When Google sees that other credible sites find your site credible, it believes them.

Target Long Tail Keywords

You already know that you need to find keywords to market your site. Yet did you know that some keywords are better than others? As you might imagine, keywords such as “sneakers” and “good running shoes” are already used by thousands of companies. In order to get Google to send visitors to your site, you’ll need to utilize long tail keywords.

Long Tail keywords are long strands of keywords stacked together. For example, you might want to try utilizing, “What brands of running shoes are best for flat-footed runners?” You’ve just narrowed down your search results to a specific group of people. Your competitors may not be targeting this demographic, so you can go ahead and take all of those customers.

The second reason to use long tail keywords is because Google has stated that it will start favoring companies that use keywords that match how people speak. More and more people are using their phones to search for businesses these days. This means that you need to use keywords that sound more natural.

Create Good Content Often

One of the most important ways to get Google’s attention is to create good content often. If you want to be noticed by Google, you need to make sure your content is updated at least weekly. You also want to make sure that the content you’re writing is helpful. If your content is good, no one will want to link to your site. If your content isn’t useful, our customers will leave your site the moment they reach it.

Hire A Marketing Company

If you have read through this article and you think it might be a little too technical for what you are able to do, you do have the option of hiring a professional to do it. A digital marketing company such as Colorado SEO Pros would be able to assist in any of the services provided above. Hiring a digital marketing company could save you money in the long run if you do not feel you have the right skillset in order to boost your Google ranking.

It isn’t easy keeping up with Google’s algorithms. Yet as long as you’re focusing on quality content, you’ll be ahead of the pack.
