What You Need to Keep in Mind to Develop a Secure Chat for Your Mobile App

The usage of Chatbot is getting momentum with changed scenario. However, just like other emerging tech-trends, chat applications also come with some security loops. The security threats arise when your chat app is not completely configured as per the prescribed standards and guides.

However, there are common ways to combat security threats with the presence of a messenger app along with other mobile applications in the users’ devices, those are:

No.1 - Securing Data Storage & Data Exchanges

Reducing burden from local storage is a good step towards cutting the risks of stored data and cloud services are a good option. Despite this measure, some data remain in the local databases of the user devices and developers have to deal with those data through frameworks according to the mobile OS platform prescription.

Core Data and Realm have known frameworks used by iOS platform and create a chat app for iPhone. OpenSSL technology used by these frameworks and provide security to the stored data in SQLite databases using SQLCiher library components to provide high-end encryption technology benefits.

No.2 – Securing Client-Server Communication

Client-server communication needs security measures and encrypting data before sending it using TLS routes. You must configure TLS/SSL properly using CA certificates.

No.3 – Implement End-to-End Encryption

When data are passing through a long route from one end to another, chances are high to read it or bad intended acts in between. Therefore, complete encryption at one and to another end provides complete security.

It demands implementation of end-to-end encryption technologies and strategies to secure the passing data from one chat application to the server and then to another chat applications.
