Things To Consider When Buying A Managed Dedicated Server

There are several advantages of the dedicated servers and they are applicable for all kinds of users as well as businesses. This is why it is very important that you take note of these advantages and then decide on a course of action.

The first thing that needs to be noted in this regard is the technological aspect and perhaps the most-important consideration in this regard would be the bandwidth of the dedicated server in question. When you are hosting images and other multimedia forms you should have enough bandwidth and your uplink speed should be good as well.

Considerations

It is very important that you consider what your hosting service provider is able to provide to you and then judge your own needs against the same. This way, you would be able to determine whether you are getting what you need or not and make the correct decision as such. Management is also an important consideration in this regard. Not everyone would have the expertise that is needed to manage such servers. This is why you should get your managed server from a host who enjoys a decent reputation in the market. These hosts should also be able to offer your professional advice in areas such as load balancing and clustering. These are normally the areas in which you would need support.

Operating systems

The next thing that needs to be looked into in this case is the operating system. A dedicated server that runs on Microsoft Windows will always be the best option for you in case you use servers such as Internet Information Services (IIS), Structured Query Language (SQL) and Active Server Pages (ASP.NET). All these have been developed by Microsoft itself. On the other hand, if you wish to host open source servers such as Apache you would do better to install Linux in your systems.

Database and web server

Your web server and database needs will determine the amount of Random Access Memory (RAM) that you need. A lot in this case will also depend on the technology stack that you are working with. In case you use systems such as Ruby, Windows, and Java you are going to need a substantial amount of power. So when you choose keep this thing in mind. Performance issues are also something that have to be accorded importance with respect to selection.

Focusing on performance

When you think of performance you should always consider multiprocessor servers. They come in especially handy in areas such as video trans-coding and structured query language. They are also great when it comes to specialized applications such as chat servers, virtualization, and games. You can always go for a dual server from Xeon in such cases. The network is also an important part of these operations. You always have to think of the data centre when you are attempting to choose a dedicated server. If you want the very best then take some time and compare the centre with the demographic location that you are targeting for your business.
