Just having an eCommerce site will never work for you. You need to have proper traffic and buyers to make a profit. To drive traffic, it is important that your site is ranked well and here comes the role of search engine optimization. Here are some tips which will help you optimize your site and increase its web ranking so that you can drive more traffic and make a profit from your business.

Choice of Keyword

Do a proper keyword research and select keywords for your site. These keywords many not be essential for the content you have in your website but it will make your website visible.

While selecting, go for the few relevant words that the user use while surfing and the other can be the USP of your site. You can take the help of Goggle Adword Keyword Planner or SEMRush. Once the keywords are handy make phrases that are relevant to your site and then connect each word to your site so that the users are redirected. Using these phrases you can create URL. Make sure that everything is user friendly and does not confuse your customers.

Let’s take example of Ethanica, an eCommerce site for Ethnic Wears. If they want to create Tittle Tag for Home page then they might use Ethnic Wears for Men and Women.

User friendly Navigation

When constructing your site make sure that it is attractive and user friendly. It should have good navigation so that users can easily search and buy whatever they want.

Ensure that all the pages in your site are divided into categories and sub-categories. You can also create a tab for most popular products. Interlinking is a great way of increasing web ranking. You can link products that belong to the same category; this will also help the search engine get deeper into your site and help people find it.

Proper merchandising for eCommerce site is very well needed for better user experience as well for Search Engine Optimization. Google will give priority in ranking if your site is more user friendly.

Product Titles

Unique and eye catchy title helps users understand its importance. When you decide on the title make sure that it is useful to the costumers and also focuses on the USP of your site. You can also write description for each and every product. This will keep the customers engaged and they will know how the product will be useful for them and should they be investing on it.

Product name/title plays big roll for getting better ranking as well as user experience too. eg. If you are selling “iPhone” then you should use title as “iPhone 5S Gold (32 GB)” this kind of title is clearly showing details that you are watching Item is model 5S with 32 GB capacity and having Gold colored one.

Duplicate Content Issue

When planning SEO for eCommerce sites you should make sure that there is no duplicate content. One product should show in only one category.

Google is going to issue penalty for all Duplicate content so you have to be very sure that you should not publish any duplicate content. Google just roll-out latest algorithm update called Panda 4.0 and people are saying many known eCommerce site are being affected due to that.

Focus on Content

Content also helps in promoting website and increases its ranking. You can create a user guide which will help them shop easily. In this guide you can provide them all the information about the product that you are marketing.

You can also let them know the different modes of payment and the terms and conditions of your site. You can also add images of your product so that they can see and have a feel of how it will look when delivered. Videos in your site will be an added advantage.

Social media is one of the best ways of promoting a website. You can have a share option so that any user who is liked to your site can share with others. Most of the sites become slow when added to cart. Make sure that the process is smooth on your site.
