The report contains data for 11 different industries present on Twitter in the UK. These are: All UK Brands, Alcohol, Banks, IT/Electronics, Beverages, Beer, Politics, Retail, Cars, Sweets, and Telecommunication.

The Best Performing Profiles

One Direction and Zayn. Those are the winners. Just like last month. And the month before. No matter what’s happening in the world, what’s trending and what’s not, they always come out on top on Twitter in the UK. And it seems unlikely to change anytime soon. But this month saw Emma Watson crack the top 5 performing tweets. So that’s something.

The Most Popular Hashtags

The most popular hashtags this month were #mufc, #TeenChoice, and #LFC. Similar to fanpage trends, sports clubs are huge on Twitter in the UK, and the popularity of their hashtags proves it. Their recent increase in popularity is no doubt to the Premier League, which ended early in May with Leicester City Football club being crowned champions. #TeenChoice is in reference to the Teen Choice awards, which will air on July 31st. The voting has opened, and has been making some buzz in the Twitter-verse.

A fun stand-out hashtag from this May is surely #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend. Twitter got worked up on the 25th arguing that Captain America should be in a relationship with Bucky Barnes, an integral male character in the Marvel film series. The mildly tongue-in-cheek movement began trending with the hopes of Marvel at the least recognizing the trend, but alas Marvel did not comment. Still, it was fun while it lasted.
