What Content Marketing Will Look Like In 2016

As someone who continually keeps their finger on the pulse of content marketing trends, I’m always on the lookout for the latest trend in this dynamic and exciting sector of the marketing industry. As we start this new year, I thought it would be a good time to write about where content marketing is headed in 2016.

I’ve highlighted three content marketing trends which will be big this year:

Visual content will see a massive growth:

An increasingly saturated written content market combined with massive improvements in wireless connections and internet speeds has enabled users to seek out easily digestible visual content in the form of images and videos instead of text-based information. In fact, Contentmarketinginstitute.com shares that content with visual imagery gets 35% more social shares.

Forbes points out that 2016 will see a higher demand for videos and other forms of visual content as users with short-attention spans look for content in the form of GIFs, Vines, YouTube blogs and live broadcasts that will satisfy their interest as quickly as possible.

Econsultancy.com also states that brands will create more videos, use live streaming apps and really embrace interactive features within content in 2016.

Rise of interactive content:

Talking about interactive features in content, I’m looking forward to seeing the possibilities of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality in content marketing in 2016 and how brands will leverage these technologies to delight users.

The unveiling of Oculus Rift and several other VR headsets in 2016 could finally introduce interactivity and customisability in content and will allow users to experience content in newer and novel ways.

Social Media will offer new publishing platforms:

A trend started by Facebook through Instant Articles and more recently by Twitter through Moments, social media platforms are now forming partnerships with publishers such as The New York Times, Washington Post, BBC etc. to offer users a new channel to consume content.

Content shared on social media platforms seem to get more visibility than on native platforms. It’s also beneficial for media outlets that participate by helping their content reach a wider audience and get greater engagement.

Google is also introducing its own publishing platform soon and we can expect this to spread across other social and digital mediums.

These are three content marketing trends I’m particularly looking forward to in 2016. What content trends are you expecting to see next year? Please share your thoughts with me at tania@wearefutureheads.co.uk or follow me on twitter @TCheems for more marketing related updates.
