How to get more out of Google AdWords

Learning the fundamental fact about Google AdWords allows your ads to perform better - for less.

How to get more out of Google AdWords

AdWords is Google's Ad platform. It lets you to run paid ads on Google and its huge distribution network.

I've been using AdWords since it first launched in 2002 and one thing is clear - over the years it has become more and more complex. It's now insanely complex. This makes it difficult for the average advertiser - and that usually results in one thing - they spend more money than they should and therefore feel that AdWords is very expensive. But is doesn't have to be that way if you know the fundamental fact about AdWords..

The fundamental fact about AdWords

An AdWords ad consists of two components..

1. The Ad text and destination url.

2. The content of the destination url.

#2 is where most advertisers make their big mistake. The destination url is simply the page on your website where you are sending all the AdWords traffic - and it must match your ad. What does "match" mean? It's this..

  • Make sure the page Title Tag contains the main keyword used in the Headline of your AdWords ad.
  • Make sure the page content does the same, plus mentions other keywords used in the keyword list of your ad. Page content includes headline and body text.
  • Make sure all aspect of the page agree with your ad. Example: if you ad offer a free deal then that free deal must absolutely be offered on your page.

So what happens if you do all this correctly? Google will like your ad, give it a higher quality score, and charge you less!

Of course, there's much more to optimizing AdWords ads, but take care of this fundamental fact first. This is the big one.
