Viral Content - What's Next?

You suddenly got 1,000 views on your content! Hurray! What should you do next?

Virality, achieving this is as hard as teaching this word to a 3 year-old kid. We always aim for virality. I mean, who doesn’t want virality? Every website owner wants to be famous and popular on the internet as it can give them that needed exposure.

When these situations happen to you, they boost website traffic to higher levels. They are the ones that gave various brands like Coca-Cola, Krispy Kreme, FedEx and other popular icons further exposure on the internet. As a website owner, it’s a must for you to have at least one or two “flagship” posts that can earn you more exposure. But what if you suddenly got that viral post that you’re looking for? Are you ready to maximize it?

Most of the time, lots of website owners panicked whenever they suddenly got a hold of their very own viral content. A thousand views, a hundred shares and a few likes more than the usual and then, they suddenly panic without doing anything. I mean, not everyone experiences virality.

Sometimes, you gain popularity and get quick traffic, but most of the time, you don’t. And for someone who doesn’t reach this yet, suddenly being viral can be overwhelming.

So the question is simply this: What will you do if your post (may it be an image, a video or an article) became viral?

1. Keep the hype by commenting and replying on feedbacks
The first thing that you should do is to give feedbacks on feedbacks. When your viewers find out about this, they will take the opportunity to ask further questions or grab the chance to get your personal POV about certain comments. The more recent your feedbacks are, the more chances that your viewers will be engaged on your website.

2. Keep on generating traffic by sharing it on various social media sites
Help your viewers in sharing your viral content by sharing it further on other social media sites. You don’t want to waste the opportunity of spreading the fire while it’s still burning.

3. Update it (if possible)
Your viewers want it to be as timely as possible. If your content needs to have updates, do it as soon as possible. Include the latest hints and points to keep then rooted in it.

4. Follow it up with a supplementary post
Before the hype could end and your readers leaving in peace, you should create a follow-up post that could amplify your viral content. Make sure that your supplementary post is still on the right tract and niche. Make sure it doesn’t fly further away from the main topic.

5. We know you’d still share your content, so STOP oversharing
We know the urge of oversharing since it is viral, but never ever overshare it. As much as possible, you don’t want your good flagship content to be marked as spam by some viewers. Let it mature by itself by letting your viewers share it rather sharing it yourself.

Get website traffic through referrals and not by self-promotion! So the next time you got a more than a thousand views on your content, don’t celebrate just yet. Use the momentum that you’re having right now and boost website traffic like there’s no tomorrow!
