Chris Barez Brown, Founder, Upping Your Elvis
Please introduce yourself.
Hi, I’m Chris Barez Brown and I’m the founder of Upping Your Elvis. What we do is, we help big companies get better at creative leadership. The leadership aspect is about helping people step up every day and own the future. Take your responsibility for what they see around that they can improve. The creative aspect is about believing that you cannot think your way to ten on ten. At best if you’re smart, you might get to six but that’s not going to win. The only way to ten on ten is to take a creative leap. That’s what we inspire our clients to do. We give them the confidence, the energy and the flexibility to be able to think differently every day about the opportunities around them.
Where does inspiration come from for you?
I’ve been doing this work for a while now and I get my inspiration, I guess, from a couple of places. Firstly, from people. I love to surround myself with diversity, with people who think differently, break the rules. The mavericks who like to agitate the system, because when I’m with them I always find that I will get to see things in new and different ways and life is never boring when they’re around. So people are great and then the other part of my inspiration, I guess, comes from outside in nature. I’m looking out of my office window and I can see the sea and I know if I get stuck, I just have to get outside, go and paddle on the water with the dog, get out there and I will always come back with a reset and more of a chance to think better. Those are my two favourite sources of stimulus, people and nature. I’m a bit of a hippy creative, I’ve realized.
What are you going to talk about at Inspiration?
What am I going to talk about when I’m with you guys on the Digital Doughnut day? Well, I believe that creative genius really comes from our subconscious, therefore I find that most of my clients spend too much time thinking and debating, analysing numbers and trying to come up with the perfect solution, as opposed to experimenting or trusting their gut and their intuition. I’m going to spend my session helping explain that and giving you some top tips on how you can make sure you prime your subconscious to work for you and you listen to it better, so that regardless of the situation, you have more of a chance to get some extraordinary creative thinking happening in your life. So that’s the plan. How we’re going to do it, in an interactive style and we’re going to have some fun, and some energy. I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll see you there.
