A U.S. Perspective - Meet Chimeren Peerbhai

"Go introduce yourself to someone you don't already know" led me to meet Chimeren at our recent meet up.

Digital Doughnuts aim is to create a useful resource for digital marketers, which we can collectively all learn from. But the piece the whole team really enjoys and is passionate about, is bringing our great community of digital marketers together face to face.

At our recent London meet up in Hoxton Square, I was thrilled by how many internationaI people were attending. Just when Graham Ruddick (Digital Doughnut CEO) said his standard line, “go introduce yourself to someone you don’t already know”, I heard an excited american voice talking passionately about digital marketing and how augmented reality was being used in the states. That was it, I had to introduce myself!

It was great to meet Chimeren Peerbhai at the event so I thought I would ask a few questions and share her experience of the meet up with you here.

DD: Hi Chimeren, great to meet you. what did you use to do back in the US?

CP:   Back in the states I used to run the digital strategy marketing department for a global Fortune 500 medical device company called St. Jude Medical.

DD:Have you noticed and difference in digital marketing between the UK and US?

CP:I believe the US is slightly more advanced in it’s use of emerging technologies for digital marketing, such as augmented reality, digital point of sale and virtual social worlds but most of these technologies have not been widely adopted by U.S. audiences yet. Given this lag in user adoption, I believe there is still time for UK firms to ramp up development to meet or exceed user expectations for engagement with emerging digital channels in future.

DD:What attracted you to this particular meet up?

CP:I discovered this group on Linkedin, when I was considering moving to london and it seemed quite active and had many informative sessions to keep abreast of current technologies, as well as wonderful opportunities to network.

DD:What did you think about/learn at the meet up?

CP:I’ve only attended one meetup so far, but I was able to try out a virtual reality headset and virtually explore london via the thames and the london eye which was a really awesome experience!

DD:What are the areas of digital marketing/future technology that excites you the most?

CP:I’m most excited about the future trends such as internet tv, google glass, augmented reality, virtual reality, wearable tech and virtual social worlds.  When I wake up in the morning the thing that motivates me, is pioneering a future reality that appears absurd to people in present day, but will become common place in a few years time, just like the iPhone.  My philosophy is if you dream it, make it user friendly and add value, they will come... When they do, I’ll be waiting with the next great evolution in digital marketing for them.

DD: Thanks so much for coming along to the meet up Chimeren. We hope to see you at the next one which is “The nearly Christmas Anti Social” at Hoxton Square on Tuesday the 26th November.
